Try Something New in Chattanooga

I’ve made it through my annual October readings of Poe and Lovecraft and have set some new reading goals for the long cold evenings by the fire to come. As wonderful as it is to be able to see some of my favorite movies (The Ghost and Mrs Muir) with a click or binge watch a foreign crime series, the time spent on Netflix etc is gone and I can’t get it back so I’m trying to make better use of my time. I canceled my Acorn TV but now there are so many streaming channels and shows to hijack our free time that it’s not worth it. At least we don’t have to sit through commercials any more.

As much as I love being a homebody on those cold evenings we have spent some wonderful evenings out recently that were memorable. Sitting at the windows in Beast and Barrel and watching the traffic and walkers on Frazier on a recent night was something we hadn’t done in a long time (years) and asked ourselves, why? We often get stuck and just do the same default things when we find a favorite place with good salsa and it is a gamble to try something new.

Alimentari is one place we gambled on before a show and had a great time, not realizing that the new West End was transformed the night Bernadette Peters was in town and the Motorcar Festival was happening. I wasn’t even sure what city I was in but this is Chattanooga. So many things are happening here that it takes on the festival and the people visiting and becomes this wonderful place sometimes unique each time. The next day you can drive by and everything is back to normal and it’s hard to believe it had been transformed the day before! The magic event fairies are doing a great job not only bringing fun experiences here but also cleaning up afterward.

There really is something for everyone too. If you don’t like music you might like cars or rowing or athletic competitions. Or just eating and trying a new place. Binge watching and a favorite salsa are nice things to fall back on but there are some things coming up that shouldn’t be missed. The Lighted Boat Parade Nov 29, 2019 5-8:30pm with Santa, food and activities for children at Ross’s Landing.

Southside District-MAINx24 is a 24 hour Festival with ice skating, cook off, parade and parties.

Tivoli:The Nutcracker with The Chattanooga Ballet (numerous shows), Moscow Ballet Great Russian Nutcracker Dec 24 , 12 and 4pm and Home For the Holidays Dec 21 and 22 with The Chattanooga Symphony and Opera or check out chattanoogafun.com for more great activities and don’t forget Rock City ‘s Enchanted Garden of Lights beginning Nov 22 2019!! I kept waiting last year and then the weather wasn’t good so Netflix will be shut down at my house for a few months to fit in some Chattanooga magic!

We were new to the area. Deborah sent us listings on a daily basis. When we found one we liked she was there for us 100%. She helped us navigate the process and we ended up with a wonderful home and a great buying experience.
